Whitney Hilde Signs NLI

As the first player to ever sign a National Letter of Intent for Greater Renton FC, Whitney Hilde, a member of the girls ’94 Blue team, signed today to attend Portland State University. Whitney is a Renton native and grew up playing soccer; it has been her passion for many years and is thrilled at the opportunity to play collegiate soccer.

“I feel very fortunate to be the first player to sign a NLI for Greater Renton FC. I hope this accomplishment helps every player realize their dreams can come true just as mine has today. It has been a lot of hard work and I am so thankful to the club for the resources and great coaching I have received to help me develop as a soccer player and person.”

Whitney began playing soccer at the age of five on the Dragon Tails, coached by Don Boydston. Although the team name and coaches changed throughout the years, many of her original team mates have stayed together and have been the heart and soul of this team. Whitney had Leighton O’Brien as her coach when Greater Renton FC was formed and she says, “He taught her a level of soccer she did not know existed.” She remembers him telling the team he only coaches his teams for two years and she was so thankful to have spent those two years with him, learning and growing as a player under his leadership.

As the Club Coaching Director I could not be more pleased, “Whitney is the perfect example of what we emphasize at GRFC; commitment and player development. She has been committed to staying with the same team her entire youth career and took advantage of the opportunities provided to her to develop into an elite player. We have helped develop Whitney as a soccer player and person and are confident she is prepared for the college game.”

As a member of GRFC, Whitney is a team captain and has helped lead her team to many tournament Championships, State Quarter and Semi-Finalist and has experienced playing at some of the Nation’s top tournaments.

“Whitney is a pleasure to coach and I am happy to have traveled this journey with her, she is a very talented and smart soccer player and I know she is going to have a successful collegiate playing career.” – Tami Nguyen

Whitney wants to thank her teammates and friends for such an amazing journey but most importantly thanks her parents, Wayne and Janett, for their love and support throughout her soccer career.

Hadley Bezon & Jamie Rita, both GRFC G97 Blue team members, recently were chosen to be a part of the WA EPD/ODP G98 team.

They then were selected onto Phoenix travel roster to Phoenix for the Region IV Soccer Championships.  The event was played January 14-17.  You have a couple CHAMPIONS in the club!!!  They helped beat Cal South 1-0 in the championship on Tuesday, January 17. What an AWESOME experience!

Congratulations on your selection and championship ladies.  Quite an accomplishement!!
Extending our deepest sympathy
GRFC lost a member of our family on January 6th.  Suzanne Wolf, mother of Erin Wolf, Girls 96 Red, passed away last week.  She was cared for at home by her loving husband Kevin and children Erin and Joe.  She was an advocate for the homeless, a soccer player, and was training for the Danskin triathlon even while going through treatment!  She was an inspiration to many and will be missed as a member of our community.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 14 at 10:00 am at the PlymouthChurch,
1217 Sixth Avenue, Seattle

Our hearts go out to Kevin, Erin and Joe.
Used Soccer Shoe Drive
donations Mon/Tue/Wed/Thurs Through January - Starfire #3 North

Hello all Keith Larson here,

I am in contact with a group of soccer players that could desperately use soccer shoes. I know there is a closet full of used shoes that don’t fit or "don’t seem to work right." ha ha. Please donate your used and unwanted shoes for children in need.

Here is how it will work. Find me on Starfire Field #3 North any Monday through Thursday 5 and 8:30pm through January and bring your donated shoes to me while you are at practice or dropping off or picking up your child. If you would like to attach your name to your donation, that will let me know who to thank. Thanks so much. I will provide pictures later of the happy players that get these shoes.

Thanks for your generosity.
Keith Larson

GRFC Plays Internationally
Brittany Dinkins (98 Blue) & Erin Zetterberg (97 Blue) proudly show off their ‘Dana Cup’ Champions trophy which they recently earned while traveling internationally to Denmark with 15 other NW  players  from 5 different RCL clubs under Benson Soccer. Benson Soccer has been coordinating International youth travel teams for  over 20 years. The 2nd week of their action packed trip found the team traveling to Sweden to play in the ‘Gothia Cup’ (the World Cup of Youth Soccer).  This tournament had over 1700 teams from 75 countries. In their U14 age bracket alone there were 84 teams from 20 different countries , they are proud to report a semi-final appearance.  Way to go Ladies!

Beyond the soccer, the girls met kids from all over the world and exchanged gifts with players from Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Brazil, Great Brittain, Lebanon, Australia, Zambia and Kenya. It showed that soccer (or football as we were corrected many times) is truly the world's game.
