2009 Bigfoot Finalists!
GRFC Girls '97 Red
What a great weekend for the G '97 Reds
Congratulations Ladies!!!

Girls 97Red, after being placed in the gold division against their wishes, the week of the tournament, took on the challenge and accomplished more than expected.

After a solid performance in game 1 vs ISC Arsenal, giving up a late goal and walking away with a 1-1 tie, the girls learned from this and in game 3 against a strong Extreme team did not sit on their heels after scoring and held on to win 1-0, claiming their bracket and setting them up against the Marauders Blue team in the semis.

One would think with the majority of the team camping all weekend that the girls would be a little flat in some games but they impressed everyone and battled in every single game especially in the semi final game beating Marauders 1-0 to advance against hometown Snohomish United Black.

The girls came out on fire and surprised Snohomish that they were much more competitive than they had thought.  They battled hard all first half giving up a goal off a free kick just outside the 18 box that was perfectly placed upper near post, nothing the keeper could do with that one.  Again in second half they battled even harder, hitting the post on one shot, and narrowly missing a couple more and holding strong until giving up a goal with 9 minutes left in the game.  That didnt knock them down though, if anything it lit the fire more and they continued to pressure the Snohomish defense but just couldnt manage a goal against a solid defensive line.  Walking away from the final losing 2-0, the girls, coaches and parents all knew they gave it their best shot and were very proud of their performance.
Until the final game the team allowed only one goal in 4 games, something in previous tournaments was an issue.  With lots of practice and determination, this team managed to make the proper adjustments and became much stronger on the defensive end.  Way to go girls.

A special thanks to guest players "Make it look EZ(Erin)" and "Teresa The Glove"  we really appreciate the extra help.
