2009 Bigfoot Champions!
GRFC Girls '94 Blue
Congratulations G ’94 Blue
GU 16/17 Gold Champions
August 13-16, 2009

The ladies of the GRFC ’94 Blue repeat as Bigfoot Champions.  With coach Tami at the helm the girls advance from bracket play scoring 14 goals and allowing 0 in 3 matches and earn a full 30 points.

The offense was clicking and Jena was just getting warmed up!  In the Semi the girls would face off against a strong Revolution ’93 Black team.  A heart breaking injury to our beloved Haley early in the 2nd half challenged the girls to remain focused as best they could and play hard for their fallen team member.  Jena had an amazing save of a Penalty Kick during the match and after full-time the game would be decided by Kicks From The Mark.  Jena again dominates saving 3 takes by the Rev’s and the girls advance to the Final.

Facing a tough MRFC Blue ’93 team, the girls showed their grit after having the lead early at 1-0 and then giving up 2 unanswered goals to come from behind and get it tied 2-2 off a big 35 yard bomb from Rosie.  Coach Tami and the girls having made the necessary adjustments to come back to tie with Haley inspiring the girls from the sideline, they would cap off the victory with a clinical finish by Kaili breaking down the keeper 1v1.

From the first pool play game to the last whistle of the Final, the intensity and physicality increased.  The girls met the challenges and you’d never guess they were playing up!  Coach Tami led off the awards ceremony introducing the game’s captains who in turn called on each player to come receive their medal.  With arm-in-arm smiles and gold around their necks, photo’s were taken and high fives given.  After the presentation, coach Tami awarded the tournament plaque to Haley.

We’d like to thank our guest additions who played fantastic soccer and more than fit in on the team.  They made it even more special and fun.  It was sure great to have Kimi and Kiana back in action with the team and Haley’s best pal Rosie.  The camping was wonderful as well.  The entire South complex was nothing but GRFC campers.  With over 20 RV’s and nearly as many tents, it was a sight to behold.

The only things missing.......and in a big way, were Allison and her family and coach Leighton.  We sure missed you but hopefully the girls made you proud!!

Thank you to all the players, the parents, and Coach Tami for a weekend to remember!
